Healing Sessions with Reiki

Reiki or "Universal Life Force" is a form of energy-based healing using the placement of hands and/or intentions and symbols to activate the body's ability to heal either on a physical, emotional, or spiritual level rediscovered and brought to the world through a teacher named Mikao Usui during the late 19th and early 20th century.

Of Japanese descent, Usui was on a spiritual quest for enlightenment when he had a vision which allowed him to experience a deeper understanding of ancient symbols and techniques for healing. Reiki was officially brought to the Western world many years later by a woman named Hawayo Takata who was instructed by a gifted student of Usui named Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. During that time two primary traditions of Reiki developed, one in Japan, and the other in the United States and neighboring countries. Over time other variations of tradition and technique as well as new symbols were introduced through practice or channeled information by subsequent students leading to a vast assortment of styles of Reiki.
Through the use of ceremonial activations called "attunements" one is trained and initiated to receive the ability to channel the energy of Reiki as Usui and his lineage of students have in order to heal the self and others. These attunements are divided into three or more levels depending on the tradition of Reiki being learned by the practitioner. The final level of attunement in each tradition is designed to teach one in how to attune and pass the power to access Reiki to others.
Rev. Stephen Whittaker is certified through several direct lineages of Reiki Master
Teachers to both attune and provide training for all skill levels of the Western
traditions of Reiki known as Usui Shiki Ryoho (Takata's lineage) as well as Usui Tibetan
Reiki (developed by a student of Takata's teachings).
Along with these certifications Stephen also has been trained in the
Chikara-Reiki-Do, Kundalini Reiki, and Gold Reiki traditions. He is also trained in
an alternative to Reiki known as 7-Facet Seichim (Sekhem, SKHM developed by a Reiki
Student known as Patrick Zeigler in the 1980s which includes new symbols, Egyptian
mysticism, and a focus on the cosmic aspects of Reiki).
